Alisa Benfey (IROCOH)
Alisa Benfey is an award-winning textile and graphic designer. Originally from Tokyo, Japan, and now living in Los Angeles, California, Alisa has more than 20 years of experience in graphic design, architecture, print, and textiles.
Her design studio, IROCOH (pronounced Eee Ro Koh), is a reverse reading of the Japanese word "HOKORI," which means both "Pride" and "Dust.” The word "IRO" means "Color." It’s a reminder that creations are designed to be cherished, used with pride, and ultimately returned to the earth in their natural way.
Alisa also has a natural dye practice: “There’s something magical about using plants and minerals to create colors that are unique and vibrant, all while staying connected to nature and sustainability.”
